My gas gauge works when I fill up, but only for a couple minutes, then slowly drops to empty and light goes on even though she's full any ideas, I've got a fairly new fuel pump assembly only like a year old in need of help

Naw brother, that's just crappy XJ fuel mileage!! Ha Ha!!
Seriously though, sounds like the float has a crack and may have fuel in it allowing it to sink instead of float.

Fuel sending unit aka resistor is toast, if anybody encounters this drop your tank and check the fuel sending unit if there's burn marks on it of any sort there's your problem, once again happy happy jeep jeep....braaaaaaappppp
