dummy pulley for AC Pump

Just when I thought I'd have to dump a ton of $ in my xj, this forum saves me again! Is this as simple as it looks to install? My ac system is already drained....leaked out a while ago.

yes, pull the lines undo the 4 bolts holding on the pump then unplug and remove it. then install the new pulley with the 3 bolts and your done. i did mine and a few others in about 15 min. maybe less.

Picked up the bypass pulley from Advance Auto Parts today for $47 and a new belt. I couldn't find a 15mm wrench to get to the tensioner in my tools so it'll have to wait till this weekend.

I put the bypass pulley on today. Not hard at all!
I bought the bypass pulley from Advance Auto Parts.
Part# Dorman 34237
Tools needed:
15mm wrench
15mm socket
13mm socket
12mm socket
Socket wrench
1. First make sure system is dry and have discharged properly. (Mine was already empty from a prior leak)
2. Loosen tensioner bolt and remove belt. I drew a diagram of the belt pattern b/c i couldn't find one for a 99 4.0.
3. Loosen the 4 bolts on the top of the compressor but be careful. One of mine broke but luckily I still got it out.
4. Remove the connection on top of the compressor.
5. Remove compressor.
6. Remove hoses and tie back electrical connections.
7. Put bypass pulley on and bolt up with supplied bolts and washers. Don't tighten to hard as the bolts can snap.
8. Put new belt on and tighten tensioner.
9. Check for squeeling.
I chose to leave the condensor in place with a couple other parts by the firewall. I might remove that another day or just in case I want ac again.
Whole process took approximately 2 hours.

Just finished my A/C delete and everything went smoothly. I went as far as taking all of the lines out and everything else associated with it, cant even tell there ever was a/c.

I cant understand why someone would pay money for a dummy pully when instead you could just leave the pump on, but remove all the rest of the AC components. It does not weigh much and acts just like a dummy pully as long as you dont give it power to engage the clutch. Plus then you could later on turn it into an OBA system.
