Is there any difference in axle shafts between cherokee years? I have to go to the bone yard this weekend and pick up a replacement passenger side axle. I was just wondering if I can pull one out of any cherokee with a dana 30 front, or were there specific years I need look out for?
I have a 99 XJ with a broken axle.

I believe 1995 1/2 and newer have a 297 axle u joint and the earlier years have the smaller 260 u joint. Don't get a older two piece shaft from a vacum disconnect dana 30.I would look for 1996 or newer.

96 to 01 will be exactly the same. Earlier non abs equipped axles have smaller u joints. 91 to 95 abs equipped shafts will swap in and have the same u joints and a tone ring. Earlier than that will have vacuum disconnect 2 piece passenger side shafts, and some even were cv shafts iirc.

alright so those are the facts. but which year with abs/non abs is the best as a spare with spicer 760's

96 to 01 all have the larger u joint. 91 to 95 with abs have the larger u joint. 91 to 95 without abs have the smaller u joint

I know this is an old thread but I need a little help in what I should do.

I've got a 94 non abs with a broken driver axle. Question is can I swap the newer 96+ axel or the 91-95 abs axel into my dana 30? I want to get rid of these small u joint since I broke one and the outter shaft with just 33's.
