Is it legal to cut off the rear quarter panels? Mine are all rusty. And is it legal to trim fenders so I can fit bigger tires if I put fender flares on it after?

In general as long as the tires are covered by fender flares it should be legal in most places. Some states/provinces have safety inspections, and if your ride is a hacked up piece of **** you can get in trouble.

Where I come from there isn't a law pertaining to mud flaps on SRW vehicles. Can't remember if there is one for DRW but that wouldn't mean anything if we're talking about XJ's.

I dont see how trimmed fenders could be illegal anywhere. I dont even have to have flares down here. But, you should check around locally, laws are different everywhere.

Where i am from they give "fix it" tickets like candy if your tires poke outside of your flares. So adequate flares are a must here:-/

As long as the fender flares covers the tires, it should be fine in most States. But best to call your local Law Enforcement or DMV and ask.

Not to mention that if your in an out of state vehicle it's a whole different set of rules.

My 33s stick way out and my body is cut up. I asked the sheriffs deputy that lives in my neighborhood, he told me an xj is a wagon not a truck and in ill wagons dont have lift laws or tire coverage laws. A rock to someones windshield could cause you some problems.

If you lived here in KY no one cares. I have seen trucks with the frame bent driving around looking like it's going to fold in half.
