Deer Proof Aftermarket Front Bumper ??....
As the title suggests, I'm looking for a "deer proof" front bumper. I've searched and haven't found the answers I'm looking for. My daily commute brings me through deer/bear country and I've had several close calls with them. After seeing several co-workers rides that have had encounters with them, I decided that the front bumper has to go and be replaced with something more survivable.....
ARB & Warn bumpers are out of my budget. I've found quite a few possibilities that my meet my needs. The basic design would include a leaning forward main hoop with side kicker supports. I have no plans for a winch, but the winch bumpers do extend from the front some. Might they look awkward used without a winch? Secondly, I'm leaning towards a rectangular tube type construction rather than panels welded together with internal gussets as a did see one that bent upward after a slow meeting with a tree. Is the tube construction stronger?
Certainly, appearance is important as well and the bumper should "flow" with the body/grill lines......
Any information will be helpful in making a selection........

Maybe try www.jcroffroad.com or www.nates4x4.com . Quite a few bumper choices there with tie in brackets for strength.

make it out of 1/4" plate steel and put 12" long pikes on the front of the bumper...
that why you can just hit the deer head on and the bumper will act not only as a hunting device but also as a way to carry your deer home...
win Win WIN!!!

I forgot to mention that my XJ is stock height and running only 235's. After reviewing boatloads of bumper pics, I think the winch bumper might look a bit hokey on my ride as it would look disproportionally large. On a lifted XJ with bigger meats, it looks sweet. I really like the JCR bumpers and it's one of the front runners in the bumpers that I'm considering.....

I had a Hanson and loved it- still pricy though. To stay on the cheap side build your own and if you don't have a welder or know how to weld take a course at a local college and build your bumper as a class project.
I would also suggest if you want to survive an encounter with a deer or bear get a lift on that thing and drive over it. Otherwise it will still destroy your grill and possibly your fenders and hood.

if you weld, or know someone who does. you can have any steel/welding suply shop bend some dom tubing. then weld it on to whatever bumper you like. I plan on doing this when i get around to getting new bumpers. the extra price for the "prerunner" bars on most bumpers just seems to high to me. anyway, that way you can have it any sise, shape, and angle you want. cheers.
