Default cowl snorkel kit

so i came across this and im a newb when it comes to engines still. But obviously i everything that comes with this kit http://www.quadratec.com/products/17006_7101_07.htm is benificial. but i dont know to what extend and i dont understand why fully. i figure considering the price is fully worth it but again would like to understand why, also can someone explain to me how its a snokel as well please and thank you.

basically you are changing where the motor gets its air. instead of a hot engine bay, it is pulling air from the cowl (under the windshield wipers). it is a snorkel because you can even have water come up onto the hood, and it wont hydrolock. imagine the snorkel that sticks out the side and goes up the A pillar, but it is all hidden.

thanks for the input friends, the cowl kit on quadratec is on backorder atm so i wont be placing an order for it, but will look into a homeade version istead.

hmmm... weird, I wonder if that big area has a slip feature in it for the engine wrap. Just don't forget a snorkel is just the beginning of making a truck "water proof"

I have seen a few guys run hommade versions of this, and it seems to work alright... I like the idea myself actually. If you do it, make sure you takes pictures and report on if it works.
