cooling fan
Has anybody found a different engine cooling fan for the XJ 4.0L . I don't like the way the fan blades are cut and shaped . I've seen some plastic fans in some cars that look better then the fan that the XJ has . I would like to find a fan that would pull more air .

Go to Napa. Get a 272310 clutch fan. It pulls way more air than stock. Your original one is probably no good anyway.

I have a new fan clutch and it just runs a little warm when stuck in traffic and I live in Los Angeles so I get stuck in traffic a lot . When installing the fan clutch that's when I saw how the fan blades are cut and shaped and I know if it had full sized blades it would pull a lot more air . The electric Fan works good and has no problems .

Your problem is else where, not how the fan "looks". It was designed by engineers to provide more than adequate air flow while keeping the least amount of power robbing air drag on the engine as possible. If you have a new fan clutch and you e-fan is working as it should its time to start looking at diagnosing what the problem really is. water pump? radiator? thermostat? They tested the cooling systems in this vehicle in way hotter controlled conditions than it gets in LA. Dont get me wrong, it gets hot there, but it gets a lot hotter in other places.

Yes it was designed by engineers but then it was modified to provide clearance . when I changed my mounts I moved the engine and trans back about 3/4 of an inch so there is more room for a fan that has full blades . I am a ASE master mechanic and have seen small radiator fans that are made of plastic that would not rob much power . the electric fan robs more power from the engine than you think . I just want to have a better fan then it has now I just asked a question if anyone has used a fan like I asked . I know my 2001 XJ has a air flow problem I tested the water pump and it flows plenty of water the radiator is clean . I wanted to increase the air flow so it would cool the engine and help the a/c .

Different option try purple ice it's made by royal purple says can cool up to 22 degrees my xj wanted to run up to 25 when driving slow in 4wd 2 bottles later it stays on 215 It didn't run cooler all the time but it stayed were is supposed to I could tell a big difference and it lasts up to 30 thousand miles

You'll also read that others (including myself) experience high temps under long pulls.......inclines.
What no one has discussed is a lean fuel condition........this is where I think the problem lies.
That said, I too would like to find a fan that pulls more air. I run an Efan, finding accurate stats in Efans is impossible..........false claims.
Let us know if you find a solution.

Hood vents ? the bottom of the engine compartment is open just like all other cars and trucks . the fan blades are not a full blade and the shape is also not the best for for pulling the most air it can . on older cars you can get different fans .I wish I had the time to go to a wrecking yard and see if I can find a better fan that would fit the fan clutch and shroud .

I am also having the same problem now that I stuck a trans cooler on my Cherokee , BUT I do have a Alum 2 core ( 1in cores ) and new head as well as water pump ( using Toyota Red Antifreeze ) and hoses and belts and usually ran 190 all day long with or without the AC on , but goes up to 215 when crawling now with the cooler ( stock aux ) . Sounds like the Royal purple just might work ( I personally hate Vents in the hood )

I guess I don't understand the reason really. I drive mine on the street fairly regularly, but when I am off-road during the summer when its 95+/- and I am pulling some decent RPM's with very little air-flow through the radiator except for what my stock fan provides, I rarely see anything over 215 or so.
From my experience, if you are over-heating, there is another issue, not necessarily the fan shape.
