Default cam kit vs. roller rockers

there have been recent threads about after market cams for the 4.0 engine. But while reading those threads i see people talking about also getting roller rockers for the engine and with this you dont need a cam, valve springs or really anything it just bolts in. My question is what would give me better horse power and performance? a whole new cam kit or the roller rockers? i know the cam kit would require more work to install but the way i see it i will have all new high performance components (cam, springs, lifters, timing chain, etc.) but if i can get more out of the roller rockers i will. thanks for the help

Just doing a cam, or just doing rockers (dumb) is not worth it in my honest opinion.

Stroke the 4.0 if you want power.

Roller rockers relieve stress on the valvetrain. 1.6 is stock ratio but 1.7 give a little more lift. But for 500 bucks, just get a cam n lifters.
Keep in mind people, its a Jeep NOT a Ferrari. Stop expecting insane V8 horsepower. HP doesn't get you through the trails TQ does!

I realize that its not gonna be an insane horsepower change but i just want a little more performance from my engine. and i know you can get certain cams and kits to increase TQ as well. and i would love to stroke it but my finances really arnt there at the moment haha

Than just leave it, there would be almost 0 existential difference.

Get the Yella Terra 1.7 Ratio Roller rockers and a ECU tune. $500 + $250. Easy, reliable. I am sure you will like the results. A 62mm throttle body will also help.
You are still stuck with the long runer intake and poor flowing head but you will definately see a difference.

That wasn't in any way negativity twords you. It was a general statement. Budget wise, a good tune up, high flow air filter, or free flowing exhaust (catalytic converter especially) will help keep your motor happy.

Like outlaw said. Converting the rockers to roller rockers aint gonna do to much... If you replace the cam and its componets you'll see more of a gain.
When upgrading 4x4s you want to look at what is going to provide more low end torque. The reason being is when your climbing up a big hill, climbing over rocks, or just trail riding you are at low rpm's hence low end torque...

Stock is pretty much maxed out for torque. If you replace the cam, what will that do?
-add lift? the 1.7 roller rockers will do that and reduce friction and make all the rockers the same ratio and not add any additional duration, not hit/miss like with the stock 1.6 rockers. You can use the stock valve springs and lifters.
-add more duration? that will only more the power band higher, not how to build more torque.
So the best way to add more torque is with larger displacement ie stroker or forced induction.

Unless you have done the 1.7 roller rockers conversion, You really are not able to give advice and you do not know how well they will work.

Best Mods- cowl cold air intake, 62mmTB, '99+ intake manifold, heat barrier under the intake manifold, 1.7 roller rockers, good ignition and O2 sensors, good headers, high flow cat and 2.5" cat back exhaust, ECU tune by christuned.com, synthetic oil. That's it. That is what works when naturally aspirated.

Next mods-ported head, ported intake manifold, slight cam, stroker, $$$$$.

Hmmm, so a cam upgrade wont do ****? Thats weird...

Im assuming you are not trying to be hostile by telling me "I should not give advice on something". But this is a open forum and I can say what I want right? Even if its wrong... So wouldnt you rather argue with me about our diffrent point of views? Im not trying to be a a--hole, but come on Marty dont tell me I cant post my own views...

The powerband can be moved higher or lower, not just higher. And changing to a HO intake wont do much unless you change the head with it. The runners in the head are machined to match the flow of the intake. Why do you think there are different head castings for different year ranges?..
