Ok I live in phoenix, az and this is an absolute need! I need cool A/C. I am a broke college student who only got ASU paid for because of my brain, can't afford ****. I drive a 1989 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 2 Door! My A/C blows Hot so I am assured it is out of freon. Before I went off to college I drove around with it on just to have a breeze so their can not be any freon left. Just blows hot air. the compressor is fine. I need to just recharge the Freon. As with any 20 year old car a universal recharge kit really isn't universal!! :/ as I tried to connect the can with gauge it wouldn't fit. here is my photoshoped Diagram!!





I need this adapter I believe! please correct me if I am wrong.

Now This would be a lot easier if I could get this at a local auto part shop but it seems every time I walk in they have no idea and try saying that im modifying something that should be universal

you should just need a screw on adapter cap to fit on the high side and low side. mine has ones that just screw on top of the R12 fitting.

Hi Gorlax.
Best of luck getting your AC to blow cold again. I don't want to rain on your parade, but there is more to getting an old R12 system working again other than blowin' in some R134.
If you are lucky, it will take the R134 and blow cold - BUT - since the old R12 Freon is gone there is likely a leak in the system in which case the new R134 will quickly leak out and you are back to square one - perhaps within hours. Been there - done that.
Two other problems - you really should put vacuum on the system to remove air and moisture, and applying vacuum with a gauge set will show you if you have a leak that needs to be fixed first. Also, the lubricating oil used in your R12 system is not compatible with R134 refrigerant so the compressor will not get properly lubed and over time will fail.
If you are looking for cheap, short-term cooling, you might get lucky and I sincerely wish you that. Just be aware of the shortcomings Bro'.

When I converted my old 88 Cherokee I loosened that hose and turned it so the straight adapter would clear. I also changed the dryer and pulled a vacuum on the system. Worked great after that.

Yeah I figured it wouldn't be straight forward considering all the research seemed to point that way. How did you bend the hose?? Or whatever to get it to fit. I know that simply refilling probably isn't the best but only option.

Sorry this photo is messed up, but just turn the whole fitting. That's what I did, and it works great! P.S. I drive a 1989 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 2 door too. Just sayin' haha

After me and my bro tried turning that it wouldn't budge little did I know that he had a friend that was an expert at it. he came over with all this equipment. the main thine was an air vac with 2 gauges. I guess you use a compressor to pump the fluid out which takes time 20 min to be safe. Then a really crazy way of filling that R-132. You take a clamp that punctures that can and sprays trough nozle that hooks up to adapter while jeep was running. All I can say is that I now have freeeezin Cold AC for free. Awesome.
