Like a lot of guys on here, I'm running 33" BFG's with stock axles & gears. I will regear early summer to 4.56, I couldn't imagine running 35's with stock gears.... Many do it though, my XJ wants to grab gears when runnin' up hills (on blacktop that is).

31s if u have an auto 33s if manual. the reason i say this is because the 2 different trannys are geared differently and the manual tranny is easyer to get along with 33s and stock gears. now if u regear then u can run 35s like i have but i have 4.56s a hp d 30 and an xj d44 locked in the back

i have a auto trans running stock 3.55 gears with stock axles with 35s, no problems at all and i still have a ton of power and can still spin the tires on dry pavement. i am also running an aux trans cooler with 7in fan on it.

I have a transmission that's sitting in the floor of my shop that used to be in my Jeep when I ran stock gears and 33's.
It makes a nice paper weight and an expensive lesson learned.

on my 99 4.0 aw4 i ran 33s for close to 3 yrs never had a problem out of the trans, on my 97 4.0 aw4 i have been running 33s for once again close to 3 yrs and am just now getting it regeared to 4.56s. mainly because i plan on going 35s, but also because i am tired of it being such a turd at the slightest hill.
if you plan on running 33s and stock gears leave it in 3 (direct drive) in the city or speeds below 60 mph or it will really bog the engine in over drive. also a trans cooler is a must period or you will burn up a transmission. the aw4 is pretty damn tough though if maintained.
