I like my Grabber AT2's (33 x 12.5)

Great in the dry off-road, sidewall seems a little soft (watch for sharp rocks)
Pretty good in the mud. In clay they pack up but same for any tire.

Snow, they are OK. Probably because 12.5" wide tires are going to suck in the snow on something as light as an XJ, but they do pretty good down to 0*F. Below that they are pretty hard and don't grip for crap. I have about 25K on my current set and still have about 40% tread remaining

I wish someone produced a 33" 10.5 dedicated winter tire. I would buy a set in a heartbeat...

If we're simply throwing out our favorite tires, just throw a set of TSL's on and you'll be good to go.....

I believe the Mastercraft courser MSR is a pretty decent tire and snowflake rated. I'll check on this at work tomorrow to be sure.

Asking for a tire opinion is like asking for someone favorite flavor of ice cream that turns into a playground pissing match. Look at other SUV's in your area and keep a tally of what a majority of them are running and go with that one. More often than not, you will find that a certain tire does better in a certain region. I can just about guarantee it will be some sort of Cooper, BFG, Toyo or Michelin. I have had good luck with Cooper AT3's and Toyo ATII's. BOth gave me well over 65k miles and do great on the highway and in the rain.

Size is very important in determining what your options even are. Your OP mentioned a size, and I gave you recommendations based on that size. If you prefer another size or are open to other sizes, you need to state them because that could reveal additional choices.

Also depends on what your budget is. Do a search on Amazon for lt235-75-15 and you will see lots of options. I have a set of starfire sf340? I think on the wife's 01. They were only $69 each at the local tire place in town. They are what they are. Not the best but in no way bad. They're 225/75 so no wider that stock.

I have a full size Chevy van that I ran cooper discoverer St on for like 7 years. They ended up blowing apart on the highway from age but still ha decent tread. They provided great traction for a rear drive van. Even drove 50 miles to work 5 days a week one winter.

Also on another xj I have I'm running Goodyear wrangler radials. They're only $80 each usually. A lot of people bash them but myself I've had no problems. They wear slowly, provide adequate traction and are cheap.

The coopers and goodyears were lt235-75 by the way.

Take a Look at Yokohama Geolander AT's.
Great Rain & Snow Tire & they Wear like Iron.
Also 2 Thumbs Up on the Toyo Open Country ATII's.
Both Are made in 10.50X31-15.
I run 235-75-R15 & can get a Set of 4, of Either, OnLine for Less than $475!

I just got a set of Mastercraft AXTs and I like them. Really quiet on the road and handle wet roads well, no hydroplaning so far. Just waiting for snow to try them out, but they have plenty of sipes so hopefully they will do well. They are also made by Cooper and are similar to the Discoverer AT3s but lower price.

Not similar at all I'm sorry hahah. The at3 is in the top tier of all terrains. Mastercrafts are a very good option but I don't think the 2 are similar at all. The at3s warrant their higher price. Haha don't you just love tires? Whatever set someone buys, bam greatest! Yet most people don't pay attention to them until necessary. Op report back. What did you decide on?

As I said, similar not the same. But for something I will drive about 3k miles a year, good enough, probably much better than what I need. As with the OP, not needing to do a lot of heavy offroading the Mastercrafts will hold up well.

No. Will need a combination of lifting/trimming to fit 31's without rubbing.

Not at all unless you trim your fenders and perhaps bumpstop properly

The mastercrafts are good when new, but crap when they get down to 1/4 life. ive ran both, got 67k out of the AT3's on my diesel, and i am at about 45k on the AXT's and they have maybe another 10k left on them. For a bargain tire...they will work fine.
