Default Best budget minded steering upgrade kit for XJ

My next step in rebuilding the front end of my 01 XJ Sport is to upgrade the steering.... drag link, tie rod bar and such... I have looked around and found a few kits such as Rugged Ridge, JCR, Rustys Offroad, Currie... i think I'm missing one or two.... I know rustys is completely out of the question from reading reviews..
Im personally thinking about a JCR kit, but i just wanted a few extra opinions and see what y'all like most, And maybe some input from some folks that have upgraded kits. Thanks Guys!

The cheapest upgrade is the zj v8 steering. Its thicker then the xjs and bolts right on.Next is the under the knuckle kits out their but they make you ream out your knuckles and pitman arm and some you gotta move your swaybar links higher up.

That is true. With mine, I had to cut off my swaybar mounts. Zj is a direct bolt on

Your intended usage lift and tire size would help us to inform you better.

In my case I run the V-8 ZJ setup 4 1/2" lift 33/35x12:50 tires locked 4.56 gears mine is for mostly off road use. It is a solid steel setup not like stock and quite strong for $100 at AZ it has served me quite well along with the fact it's a direct bolt-in.

weekend offroader/daily driver..... 5inch lift with 33x12.50 tires... i would like something little more beefy for when i start doing more major offloading down the road.. i like the zj upgrade just would like something alittle more.

I am in the planning process for my steering replacement as well. My lift and planned uses are the same as yours. I am leaning towards gojeep's setup. Seems like a decent setup that is cheap enough using over the counter replacement parts. In a nutshell, install GoFerIt inserts in top of knuckles, use a RHD draglink OTK on the pass side, a LHD draglink OTK on the driver side, tie rod adjuster made by piecing together two drag link adjusters for driver side. The most difficult part will be drilling and welding in the GoFerIt inserts in the knuckles. I found the RHD drag link on Amazon for ~$80. Gojeep says the steering will clear the sway bar mounts, no need to mod those.

At 5" you are basically pushing stock style steering setup.
But if that is the road you want to go down, Currie or Synergy is what you want.
Otherwise, unless you want to go WJ steering, I would recommend the StinkyFab steering.

CavFab:

Pretty cheap price wise.

If upgrading, get rid of any sort of inverted (T or Y) style steering.

7/8 heims are too large for dana 30 knuckles.

Edit-Nvm i guess you can use smaller misalignments.

What year model of zj parts should I get for my 98 Cherokee? I am going to upgrade steering this weekend. Just wondering if I had to get a certain year to make it work or will any zj bolt right up?
