Having no idea on your plans for or what's on your XJ now the SYE would be the first thing the rest is decided by tire size and use. In a lot of cases a 29 spline 8.25 may be all you will ever need plus its a direct bolt-in. I run one with 35" tires and locked with 4.56 gears.

i would do the sye 1st & do a 29 spline 8.25 w/ alloy shafts. thats what i run w/ 4.56 gears , detroit locker & 35's . works great . imo

SYE first. Then axle. Just because you don't have vibes now, doesn't mean you won't after the swap. Better to do it first, than have to do it later, and besides, it's a better setup. I agree with the full TW kit over the HnT, do it the right way, you'll be happier in the long run.

You will need to install both before you can order your final driveshaft (ends and length). Don't think the sequence will matter much.

?? So basically the truck will be out of commission for a while is what your saying. Cause it will not run without the rear ive been told i can do the sye and the axle but disconnect the front driveshaft because the gearing wont be the same.

You can drive it with the rear disconnected, just put the transfer case into 4H part-time, and the front driveshaft will do the work

If you do the Chy 8.25 29 spline its a direct bolt-in where the 8.8 is not and for your use would have the strength desired as I run the same on road. For off roar I run 35" tires with that rear and stock axles 4.56/locked. That would make for a lot less downtime for sure not having to fab all the rear mounts for the 8.8 setup and its easy to add disc brakes to the 8.25 also.

I'm doing the 8.8 for 31 splines and disc brakes. Install kit is 250.00 with everything (cables, adapter ect.) 200.00 for a low miles axle(LKQ). It should be in in a afternoon. by the time I went to the jy, I'd have a afternoon in part hunting. Time is money! Parts shipped to my door wins every time.

I agree but still boils down to the application/use of/ and tire size.
