AX15 vs. NV3550
Hey guys im getting the parts together to swap out my AW4 for a 5 speed I was originally going to go with an AX15 but I was wondering if the NV3550 would be a better option sense my Jeep is a 2000 I've been told I could keep my ECM but Im not too sure. Any thoughts?
Also does anyone know if a NP242 would bolt up to either of these transmissions?

The 242 will bolt up to either.
It's said that the NV3550 is a stronger trans, but I've heard it can be a sticky shifter.
The biggest difference is the overdrive. Depending on where you read the info, they say the AX15 has a .73 or .79 overdrive where the NV3550 is usually listed as anywhere from .79 to .90 overdrive.
EDIT: Here's another thread with info on this swap.

During the swap you keep the same ECM and trick it by putting the NSS in neutral all the time. This way you will be able to start it in gear which is actually kinda nice offroad and if you jeep ever dies, you can use the starter to move it.

Yeah I have ready raided an 89' at the picknpull I got the Shifter, Petal assembly, Cylinder, and line going to the trans for 40 bucks. I think i'll go with the AX-15 cause its much easier to find and of course an external slave cyl. all AX-15's have a 23 spline output and my NP242 has a 23 input so im told so I should be good.
