What are the opinions on Federal Couragia MTs? Looking at a set of 33x12.5x15, but I'm reading very mixed reviews.
My Jeep is driven on the street mainly, but I plan to offroad it fairly hard and want MTs for the type of wheeling I do. I also want to have a tire that is capable of handling snow.

My buddy offered me his factory 33's off his new JK but i haven't had the chance to see them/he didn't know what brand they are. Does anyone know what 33" tires come from the factory on the JK's? And are they worth getting? If they're decent ill probably get them for now, but if not I'm going to go with BFG KO2 AT's or BFG Mud terrains. Opinions? the difference will probably be $200-300 bucks

Despite what many people tend to believe, mud tires do terrible in snow unless they have alot of siping. All terrains tend to do better in snow because they tend to be siped more to handle "all terrains"

I run MT's on my XJ in mud and snow and they do very well but as with any off road tire need to be aired down for best traction. On my WJ with factory LSD's front and rear I run All Terrains they do well in deep snow but deep mud not so well, but work very well on ice as well as can be expected. The MT's suck on ice.

Oh of course some are capable. I guess I was talking more on road. The big lugs on mts aren't too good on snowy or icy roads. Even in rain. But offroading in snow is differrent. There is dirt and loose ground. don't know why I read the comment like he was looking for a tire for snow onroad.

Probably because he said, "My jeep is driven on the street mainly..."

You're completely right. Very few mud tires can compete with a good A/T in winter. The ones that can aren't even very good mud tires. That's why I'm reluctantly switching to A/T with my next set. I love the aggressive look of mudders, and I don't mind the noise or vibration, but the truth is my Jeep only gets offroad a couple times each year. I need the better on-road performance and tread life of an A/T

You'll need about 4.00-3.75" of back spacing to clear 10.50's. Don't run those goddamn spacers. There are way to many instances of them failing. God forbid it's when you're going down the highway/interstate. If wheels are back spaced properly you'll not need them anyways. Many states can cite you for tire protrusion. Best bet if you need more clearance is to get adapters..

I'll just leave this here for reference..

I meant spacer adapters.. that are in the picture.. they are 4 inch offset wheels.. I have 5 inch offset on now..... so.. you are saying they will fit as is?

4" is about the minimum. Some people will rub at odd times like only in reverse at full lock.. If you have really knobby 10.50's then maybe. But with tubular control arms you'd be fine..

Jah man! On another note, the farther the WMS (wheel mounting surface) is to the hub the more stress it puts on hub assembly. Leverage and all that physics stuffs.

Wheels with less backspacing still put increased strain on the hub. Either way, the tire is sitting further out

yeah, looking at it my wording it is a little off, thank you for the clarification!
