Default 97 Auto to Manual conversion

I am looking into doing a Auto to Manual conversion with my 97' I can find 96' and earlier all day for a parts vehicle. it is the later model 5 speed's 97+ that are tough.
So I am asking would a 96 work or do I need a 97+ for this conversion.

Just a heads up, the NV3550, used in the 2000 and 2001 xjs and a ton of TJs is also a bolt on transmission. It may be easier to find that since TJs had them as well.

Pedal assembly should bolt up.

PCM you need a '97 for complete plug and play.

Master/line/slave assembly can be bought at local auto parts store

Do you think that is an upgrade to the AX-15,
also wouldn't I have to change the rear driveshaft

If the transfer case stays in the same place, then no.

May I ask why you're going from one of the best automatic transmissions on earth to a manual trans?

1. It is cheaper to find a donor manual than to rebuild the aw4. 2. Tired of the leaking out of the bell housing onto the exhaust.

Used AW4 is about $200 in this neck of the woods.

I must agree with Cruiser on this one the AW4's are only about $1-150 in my area and a much better choice, no clutch's to replace.
