You still have a transmission.

Why are you swapping rear axles/ rebuilding it if it is only 2wd. Throw a cheap one under it and go.

just because it's 2wd does not mean it's a junker. It's a very clean xj that I'll probably keep till I die. I'm doing a 4wd conversion next dinner

I'd rather do it right and rebuild it than just throw a junk axle under it. You're not what I'm looking for on this thread

Easy there. He's just trying to help. A lot of times people have no idea what they want and end up boxing themselves into a corner. Full picture is important.

If you want it done right then have someone do it for you. If you had no idea an aw4 was the kind of trans you have then there is no way in hell you can set up a rear end.

I might be willing to make you a deal on a Trac Loc lsd I have in my Chrysler 8.25. I am fixing to do the gears in it and I am up in the air about keeping it or putting in a locker.

My Jeep was ordered from the factory with the Trac Loc lsd. I did not know I had it until recently when I was greasing my u-joints on the rear drive shaft...

If you're in school for "auto mechanics" (lol), then why did you start this thread? Just buy some stuff that says 8.25 and slap it together. Gear patterns and the carrier adjustment tool aren't necessary...

because yes I'm going to school for mechanics but I wanted the opinions of guys who actually run some of the same did. If anything a good mechanic knows... Always have a second opinion
