242 Transfer case swap???
Hi guys. I have the 232 t case in my 99' XJ. I want to have the 'full time' capability of an XJ with the Select trac 242. Is it a direct swap? I heard the 242 is a half inch shorter. I have a double cardamom drive shaft and I think enough length with my lift were 1/2" won't hurt me. Is it a direct swap? I'm also wondering if I can find an XJ with one, are there an other vehicles that have the same transfer case for a direct swap? I'm moving back to CT and I like the full time 4wd for the snow for my wife. Thanks!

Any XJ 242 from a 91-01 should work. Might have to splice in some wiring. Not sure. Bout to go from a 242 to a 231 actually. I'd swap ya if you were in Indianapolis.

Swap right in. Still dont understand why you want the 242 though. Driveshafts aren't a concern. You might need to swap the speedo sensors that are in the tail housing if the plug doesn't match.

Its really just preference. I've read that the 242 is stronger than the 231. I've also read the opposite. Having had both. I can say that the full time 4wd didn't get a lot of use from me. I could never tell for sure when it engaged. Now having the 231 in My 99 if I need 4wd and I'm going under 50mph. I can just put the lever and bam 4wd.

For some reason the link isnt working on my phone, so here is the info you really need
All 96-01 XJ's: .840" 23 spline input
92-95 XJ's: .750" 23 spline input
91 and older XJ's: .750" 21 spline input
So for you to have the correct input shaft length youll need a transfer case from a 96-01
