1998 doors on my 1989. HELP!!!
I have a 1989 Laredo with power windows and locks. I like the 2 piece door glass but hate the noise and leaks. So.....I found a 1998 with power windows, locks, and mirrors. Yaaaahhh!!!! But not so fast there skippy.
I got the doors swapped out. I don't know whose idea it was to change the door striker but they should admit it was a bad idea. BADBADBAD!!! What a PIA!!!
But..... I cannot figure out the wiring. The 1998 door has 4011 wires and the 1989 has like 6 or 8. The only wiring diagram I can find for the 98 is gobbledygook to me and I think it was written in Swahili. Whatever. I did manage to get the passenger door lock to work and the drivers window to work. But that's as far as I could go.
It's been sitting in the yard for a couple of months now. I drive it around the block and let it run to keep the fluids moving but that's it. I plan to pull it in the garage when I get back home next week and try again.
I need this to work somehow. I really want the electrics but I don't know. I can read a wiring schematic but that damn 98 diagram just does not make any sense.
I have a Fluke multimeter and I know how to use it. Wire, colder, shrink wrap, check check check. Actually I think the only thing I'm missing is maybe another brain cell or two. I mentioned that to the wife and she said if I quit trying to drown the only one I had it may find a friend. Funny lady haha.
Anyway.....any help I can get will be a bonus. That's the only thing left and she will be back on the road for good and I can get moving on the other project laying around the house. I'm about to turn 61 so I'm running out of time and the old lady said she wants this **** finished before I croak. Like I said....funny lady.
Thanks folks

Gonna have to get both drivers door wiring diagrams and cross wire 89 harness and splice onto 98 doors. Each door is shown here. http://www.morris4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm

I have the wiring diagram for the 89 and it's pretty simple. I can follow that one. But the only thing I can find for the 98 just makes no sense to me. The 98 appears to have some functions built into the circuit board but I don't have a diagram for that either.
I have figured out that when the window switch is activated in either direction, the other side acts as ground. So if you go up the down wire goes to ground.

The diag is in the repair manual link I posted. Your 89 not gonna need the other wires to function the 98 had. pg 8w60-1 98 xj wiring section.

Yeah. The problem is figuring out which wires from the 89 go to which wires on the 98. I was hoping someone else had already figured it out.
