Default What's everyone doing for steering set ups?

Just ordered the upgrade for my IRO track bar to double shear tonight. It got me thinking about getting a new steering set up since mine is pretty sloppy feeling. I love IRO and there OTK set up seems really nice. But after reading I've seen mixed stuff about running heims for a DD. I've read that it's fine and that it's a bad idea. I've looked at serious offroad and the UTK and it looks nice too. I need one I bolt on, or if need be drilling out. But no reaming or welding for me. Anyone got either one steering set up? They both seem real nice. Any others that are better? Anything I search is from 2011 and older. I can't find much stuff that is recent.

Currie heavy duty steering. Kind of pricey but worth it IMHO

IIRC the currie kit retains the inverted y-setup. Most other kits are inverted t, where the tie rod connects the two wheels directly.

Serious' steering ftw.

Inverted y is good tell you lift so high then it causes problems.

The higher you lift it the angle of the tie rod becomes farther from parallel to the ground. As the suspension cycles up and down the toe of the wheels changes much more than it would if the tie rod was flat.

I'm at 3 inches now but I do plan on topping off at 5. After looking at prices the currie is too steep for me. It'll be either IRO or serious. Just gotta get some more information about both set ups.

After I talked all about my fancy Currie steering, I'm going to remove it and make a custom setup.

Have you looked in to the wj knuckle swap? you get bigger brakes and cross over steering.

Steering setup is more in line with unsprung weight rather than lift height in my opinion. I'm running a fresh Moog V8 ZJ tie rod. That coupled with IRO's double shear track bar have been great with 31s.



For a DD on anything up to 33s, I really don't see the reason for going aftermarket, HD steering.

I run the same setup except for a Rustys Dbl. Shear Track Bar and 35" tires, 33's on the street.

Like I said I plan on topping off at 5 inches. And I only plan in going to 32 largest tires. Got 31s now. I just wanna get my steering tightened up and strengthened. I figured the best way would be to just get a 1 ton set up. I would love to do the wj swap but it's too much work for me. I can do anything bolt on but I have no fab/welding skills.
