"98 XJ 4wd. Came with new radiator, starter, catalytic convertor. I've added(here we go).. Ac compressor, evap core, coolant line, dryer. Heater core. Headliner. Passenger window motor and regulator. Driver door switch panel. New radio and speakers. New power steering pump. Running lights. Hours spent cleaning outside and in. New shocks all around and yea the rear bolts both broke off that was easy fix though. New tranny coolant line from top of radiator where original line had been rigged with wrong fitting causing a leak. Of course first changed all fluids and lubed front end and drive train. She's my daily driver now all stock and I'm lovin the Jeep life. Should have had one years ago!

when I got my 94XJ it was:
missing the underseat jack and lug wrench but the PO was nice enough the throw a conventional spare tire in along with the donut.
I found a .410 shell under the seat.
front passenger window switch not working.
the welds on the front door hinges are cracked.
Missing the front passenger door check.
hole in carpet in rear passenger area
missing rear wiper arm.( I saved the rear wiper from "Carolee" so that wasn't really an issue)

In addition to the nickel and the lottery ticket that were stuffed in the cigarette ashtray, I found myself with every factory part that ever came with the Jeep (cargo cover, 12v socket covers) and other miscellaneous things that are difficult to come by these days. Too bad that lottery ticket was expired and probably didn't win anything

I inherited a knocking motor, broken springs with 2 inch lift (sat stock), fuel tank with a big leak, hitch rusted off with frame, all 3 brake lines blown out, factory size mud tires, half of a grill broken out, floor pans were flinstone style, a broken hard wired aftermarket cassette player and 4 blown speakers, and last but not least the very hungry mouse infestation. Best $250 I've ever spent!! A reason to build from scratch. Now sitting 6.5 in tall rolling on 33's and all under $1000

Overheating, cracked head, and I'm pretty sure the block was cracked before I got it. But it ran a full year before I replaced the engine. So I'm not sure how long it was cracked.

I was left with almost 0 coolant in the reservoir.
Pinhole leak in the radiator
terrible worn out U joints and a bent axle yoke/knuckle/C
Broken drivers door (they unbolted the door check and let it fall inside...huh??)
Broken switches on the inside
Rust on the doors and lots of chips and cracks in the hood
and by far the worst - a fram oil filter attached.

Just bought a 96 super cheap. So let's see....
I got a free 4lb sledge hammer.
25 new tips for a breathalyzer machine.
1/2 bag of Reese's minis.
Kit to bedazzle baseball hats.
3 good lighters.
3 pounds of dog hair- thinking of making a sweater.
Mechanically-
Broken shackle- turned out to be two broken shackles and two broken leaf springs). Fixed
4 junk shocks- fixed.
Dash lights out- burned out bulbs. Fixed.
Radio didn't work- I have no words to describe the wiring. Fixed.
Smells like gas- filler hose cracked. In progress.
AC out- recharged, replaced relay.
Sagging rear gate- parts ordered.
Rear door handle doesn't work.
Rusted pans- new welder and pans sitting in garage. Practicing/class first.

My 98 came with a cracked block for $750, also found a bunch of tools including my new favorite pry bar, lots of dirt, dents, and scratches. Oh and a mouse nest in the glovebox, when i dropped the compartment out and was digging around under the dash i found $4k, didnt have the ladys number anymore and the jeep was one of the things she was selling to clean up the property she had sold so im still driving a free jeep.

Pennies that I've still yet to be able to get out the cup holder, enough bird seed in the lights and airbox to last a week, bald stock street tires, shot brakes, airsoft bbs under the trunk carpet. The crappy ones too. And worst of all, the horrible stench of smoke as well as scuz from cigarettes on the windows. Took 2 weeks to get out.
