I know there is a general gun thread on here already as to what gun we all carry in our vehicles/person. But, I want to get more refined than that. For those of you that carry long guns in the jeep, what's your rationale and method of carry?

My long gun would be stolen out of my XJ in a heartbeat if I carried it around.

What kind of a Utopia state do you live in?

That might be the case if you blatantly leave it out in the open. Do you take your deck out? Because those are still getting stolen. What about spare change (an indicator of more money in the vehicle)? Laws vary state to state. If you don't carry one in the vehicle, don't waste my time. To each their own. Next.

If you feel the need to carry a rifle or shotgun in your vehicle full time in plain view, you either live and work the rural lifestyle in the boonies, or you have an extremely small *****.

I decided not to do that because I couldn't get it in the garage so I installed some 007 stuff, rockets in the front and oil in the back. The oil was easy since it just kind of naturally comes out of it anyway.

I left spare change on the console and got a busted window for it. Lost the change too. They took the radio the year before.

I personally would not leave a firearm in my vehicle unless I absolutely had to (laws in the State) then it would be locked somehow.

Nobody has answered your question.

I put mine behind the bucket seats in the Comanche covered in an old tattered jacket. Not an everyday thing at all. Just when going out in the woods. I'm armed with a pistol all day long anyway.

I don't have it in there all the time, but any time I take a trip to the mountains I always have my Mossberg 500 in the rear seat floor (there's always stuff in the foot wells while on a trip so it can still sit relatively flat on top of the stuff). I never carried a pistol only because the only one I had was a 1911 Colt .45 that was my great grandpa's in WW2, but I just recently purchased a Bersa 380 so that'll be my carry until I can get either a G17 or G19.

Your comment is noted but then I see you live in CA it won't be long before they ban gas in that retarded state.
As for how I carry a long gun, I have an IWI Tavor SAR-21 that fits in a back pack with 4 mags that can easy fit anywhere in the jeep. But having over 2500 invested in this one gun I don't leave it in the jeep. I carry a Gen-4 Glock 19 on my person, anytime I leave the house. Because my ***** can't protect my family.

when I go shooting I fold the back seats down, throw them in (in cases of course, mostly hard) and cover them with clothes and blankets.

When I hunt since I don't have a case yet I put my Rem. 870 express butt first into my baseball bat bag and throw blankets over what's still uncovered

Being that I'm 19 and don't fit the 21 y/o law for Handguns from an FFL, shotgun is the next best thing. That is unless a handgun comes up on armslist or another forum that I can purchase through a third party (legal here in Florida). But, the next headache I have is buying ammunition which would also have to be through a third party due to federal law. However, the next best alternative would be a long gun. Here in Florida, if I were carrying a handgun, it would have to be securely encase (i.e. in the glove box or in a holster under the seat). With a long gun, I can leave it loaded and chambered and sitting on the seat next to me. However, this is not smart to leave it out when I leave the vehicle due to theft reasons.
