Stroker is just like installing or rebuilding 4.0
I bought a scat 4.2 crank with king bearings ($470 )
ebay 4.2 rods ($160)
and h802cp pistons/rings ebay also ($150)
cam bearings $38 autozone
$60 to have rods pressed on piston /pins
That's the bare minus right there if your bores are good. Mine required no extra machining. I ridge reamed the top .005 ridge and home honed the bores.
can be done even cheaper if you can find a good refurbished crank but I couldn't find one in my area.
I went further on mine and went with a comp cam and lifters, rebuild head, new header, timing chain and basically everything bolted to it. ToOK about 4 months. Would have been less time but got hung up waiting on Lil things and cash. It's worth every penny. That almost 1/3 increase in torque is fantastic.

I do disagree with this statement a little bit. If you take out the cost of tires my car maintenance drops to $0.03/mile, so it only costs me 10 cents/mile because I chose to put the best tires I could find on it and they need to be replaced every 12-15k miles. The car is a 2008, has proven extremely reliable (and trust me, I do not baby it), and even factoring in the interest I paid on the loan it was still way cheaper cost of ownership than the jeep. But I certainly agree it is awesome not having a car payment. Again, not complaining, just looking at the whole situation from a numbers perspective. I love both my car and my jeep!

Hmm. Paid $2,100 for a 1996 328is that I drove for more than long enough to say it paid for itself, then traded it straight across for my XJ. Fluid changes, $50 worth of AC parts, $65 for a set of wheels off CL, and plenty of gas... She's been fairly low-cost so far. Insurance is dirt cheap on it. I use my tools on every car I've owned, as well as for my job, so I don't count them for much(which is good, my tool box alone is worth way more than the Jeep!)
The thing is, if we really want to weigh the "value" of our Jeeps(or any car) based on cost per mile, we'd all be riding the bus.
But when somebody asks which car is mine, I say "the Jeep". They don't look at the Liberty parked two spots closer, or the Patriot on the other side. They know exactly which one I'm referring to. Priceless. When my kids are grinning ear to ear as rooster tails of mud are slinging from all four wheels... priceless. Every time I turn the key and that old AMC boat anchor growls to life, frikin priceless.
