CURB WEIGHT
Wrangler X, Man. Trans………………………………………………………………………………………………..3760 lbs. (1403 kg)
Wrangler X Auto. Trans…………………………………………………………………………………………………3785 lbs. (1413 kg)
Wrangler Sahara, Man. Trans………………………………………………………………………………………..3951 lbs. (1475 kg)
Wrangler Sahara, Auto. Trans………………………………………………………………………………………..3976 lbs. (1484 kg)
Wrangler Rubicon, Man. Trans……………………………………………………………………………………….4104 lbs. (1532 kg)
Wrangler Rubicon, Auto. Trans………………………………………………………………………………………4129 lbs. (1541 kg)
The four-door models are about 200 pounds heavier each.
And many who've lifted them say the scale tipped 5000.
This guy claims 5600:

The 3.6L Pentastar is a pretty darn good motor. The 3.8L (not by Pentastar) is the one that had all the problems. 3.6L had some head issues early on in mid-2012, but Chrysler has pretty much fixed all that with free replacements that have an improved and modified design. No new motors seem to have the same problem. They tick a little, but that's apparently how they're supposed to operate.
I have been enjoying my JK Rubicon.
Miss my XJ, but there's so much more to cars today that sometimes I wonder why I didn't jump the gun sooner.

Some of the things newer cars have today (and broadly, new cars in general and not just Jeep) that XJs will never have are traction control, line lock, descent control, electronic sway bar disconnects, slap shifting, electronic tire pressure readings, fuel efficiency, auto-pilot, automatic high beams, pedestrian detection, side airbags, OnStar, electric engines, the list goes on...

Clearly the aftermarket support for adding some things yourself is there, but it's not as cheap as buying a new car and having everything there from the factory, nor will it look at good as the factory doing it for you. If you did everything yourself that the factory does on their own, your cost would be well above retail of a current factory-configured car.

All those are truly not necessary. The only thing I would want out of that list is maybe the electronic disconnects. I have 2 brand new vehicles and I hate all these stupid add-ons. I can turn on my own lights, and I don't need all this technology telling me I'm getting to close to something. I'm only 22 so it's not like im just an older guy stuck in their ways. But I know alot of people like these "comfort features". My xj is my favorite vehicle I have. I love driving it over my new truck and semi new car with the features you listed

Plus I honestly think those features make driving more dangerous. People think that they can drive without seat belts, text even more, heck I know alot of people that drive after drinking and feel like it's ok because "their car keeps them in the lane". It gives people false confidence until these features fail at the wrong time.

I said the same thing when I owned an XJ. The features were "gimmicky." That was before I tried them and drove daily with them.

Like you said to each their own. I don't feel luxurious at all driving my car. Especially my mom's new Suv. It's like the car wants to be in control haha. I also have a truck with these features but thank god you have the option of disabling them. I despise it. It is an interesting debate though.

Call me old but i hate nanny systems like abs and traction control if you need those you shouldn't be on the road.A tesla on autopilot already killed someone not watching the road with it on.The toyotas that the drive by wire messed up and runned away on the driver killed 21 people. The new grand cherokees funny shifter already killed anton yelchin not knowing it wasn't in park.I'll stick to my old junk its less likely to kill me lol.

All of the other things are not luxury items, they're lazy items except for the side curtain airbags, and they're not going to protect you from cabin intrusion. And many of those things are premium items, only available on $30k+ versions. I'm not paying that much for a jacked up Dart with an ugly face, sorry. The Wrangler doesn't have most of those things even as an option - yet.
Fuel economy-wise there is a calculator somewhere and I did it once - would take me a decade to make up for the difference and by that time that new vehicle would be junk.
