Salvage yard prices?
I'm always reading in Jp Magazine how these guys always find these killer deals at salvage yards, but everytime I go I feel like I get burned. For example my NP231 went out and I needed a new front case and some other parts. So, I searched for a complete TC and about eight yards had the same price around ($300). Is there a salvaged part pricing guide out there? Or do they they just take a percentage of a new one?

Yards charge what people are willing to pay. Seen cases for anywhere from $100 to 300. Then theres the pull your own yards and the they pull the part yards.

It's all about talking them down... They tend to think there parts are new so you have to put them in there place some times. I have been going to my jy for about 4 years now an they all know me an my dad an brother so they all ways give is a good deal but that never stops Mr from talking them down lol.

That's what I figured, just finding one and getting to know the guys that work there. I used to live in San Diego and would drive down to to yards by the border. I would have gotten really better deals if I spoke spanish cause they got salvaged Jeeps out the ying yang in Otay Mesa.

big difference in pull your own part and they pull the part places. the local you pull has a price list at the entrance, and they will not bargain no matter what shape the part is in, but it is nice going in knowing how much they want. I use this page
http://www.pullapart.com/pricing.aspx
as a guide before i go down there, not in the same area of the country, but they are pretty close in prices, within 5 bucks.
then I use this page
http://www.car-part.com/
to compare to local they pull places.
