To roof rack or not to roof rack?
I see a lot of XJ's with roof racks and they look alsome, but most i see in the mountains or places with out a lot of trees. I want to build one for my XJ but here in east Texas there are a lot of low limbs and tight fitting spots on the trail. Does anyone with a roof rack ever run into this as a problem?

i have one, it used to haul my spare tire around until i finally made a rear tire carrier.
i was gonna remove it because i like the look of a lifted xj without one, but i always use it for camping gear when i go out.
plus it holds my shovel, axe and hi-lift, and i use it to haul my canoe to the lakes.
and here in canada, we have lots of freakin trees. so i use mine as a rub rail against these bloody trees. it saves body damage.
long story short. you will always end up using it for something.

I love mine. Bought a Surco from Summit Racing. Had my spare and Hi-lift mounted on it for 3 years no issues. Hauled tree stands, camping gear and assorted other things on it. No problems

I have one... Its handy for bringing stuff home from the Junk yard
I've been thinking of getting it off due to the fact I might rather be able to stick the canoe up there

it is crazy to me how many people just hack away at their fenders.
Anyway I like the rack and if it gets in the way on the trail i have a cordless sawsall.
