Believe it or not try rustoleum appliance paint. It's very glossy and a super hard enamel once dry. I do appliance repair and use this paint on stainless steel filler pieces and it's super tough. I'm about to do it on mine

was surprised to see this was a thread, as i've been doing that for years on various cars i've owned. always liked the black rims look. never wanted to spend much on them, and one can of spray worked for me, for about $5
I've always just stuck newspaper in the gaps so it doesnt get on the brakes, and then painted one or two coats of black rustoleum semi gloss on them, and if they ever chip i just touch them up with a touch up pen, people have even asked what 'aftermarket' rims i have

I took a can of oreilly brake cleaner and stripped all the clear off, then sanded the inside slightly with 120. Then I taped and painted! Took about 3 hours per wheel, because of the clear stripping.

I don't have any close ups and haven't done the wheels on my Jeep yet, but I did do the Jeep wheels on my Dakota.
Sanded down to bare metal, used a self etching high build primer, white wheel enamel and wheel clear coat from Advanced. Been almost a year and they've held up great. The only scratches in the paint are from where sockets have contacted them when removing the lugs.
