Default No title.....pawned

Hi ya,
i came across an 2000 XJ with 100k miles on it buy have no title....person claims that the title has been pawned (sounded like a business to him as he has other vehicle without title as well).

Question is, is it legal to buy if i just need the parts?

Thx.

Not quite sure, is willing to write you a bill of sale? And put ALL his info on it and sign it?

Go to the DMV with the VIN and the Seller’s name and have them tell you if there is a lien on the title.

If not, have the seller apply for a replacement for a lost title.

Thx for the replies guys.

No bill of sales.
"Jeep is gonna sold as parts as seller has pawned the title".....that's what i was told.

I don't really need the title, just wanna swap out the engine and some parts.

Any other thoughts?

Even if its for parts bill of sale is like a receipt it gives you ownership this way he cant just turn around and say you stole it

How do you pawn a title?

No title or a valid bill of sale, no deal.

My guess would be a payday/title loan was taken out against it. If that's the case, then they have interest in the vehicle, so I'd probably run away quickly.

It sounds like he took out a title loan or he does not own the vehicle. I would be very nervous about this one.

tell him you'll meet him at the pawn shop to pay for his title if it's within the price he's asking.
