Well, I'm about 6 weeks out from finally ordering my lift. Originally I was going to get a Rough Country Series II 3" lift with full leaf packs. But now I'm considering doing the 4.5" lift instead. I plan on running 31" tires for now as I don't have the money to regear yet, but was thinking the 4.5" might be more upgradable later? Any thoughts? what would you do?

If you don't ever want to trim, get the 4.5". If you don't mind trimming, 3" is good for 33s.

You might as well go with the 4.5" lift. If you are thinking upgrade, or higher lift, then that will give you a better platform to work with.

yeah, it's looking like that's the way to go seeing as it can later be upgraded to long arm, and with minimal fender trimming eventually could take what? 35's? Anyone else running a 4.5" lift on 31's? How are you liking it?

I have run 31s now for 6 years on my XJ. First with a 3" lift and now 7.5" . These BFGs just won't wear out. I have been very happy with them. They are a good sized tire for an XJ. They won't require any axle upgrades unless you want a rear locker. 4.10 gears are the sweet spot for this size.
