1998 Cherokee-Sport, 4/L-4WD-Tranny Broke

Hey, my son took my 1998 Cherokee Sport 4L/4WD into a local GoodYear shop near his work and they told him he needed a new speedometer cable. The outcome is now broken tranny that won't reverse or go into gear !!! Now they want him to pay for a new trans. The owner hung-up on me when I called him. Not much info I know, but can anyone shed some light on this situation or an opinion ? Desperate for some feedback. Thanx.... Steve

The speed sensor is electronic there is no cable. Sounds like they messed up the shift cable.

!!!! Really ? NO speedo cable ? They prob cant get a new dealer cable any longer, so they want to put in a used trans. Thanx......... any additional advice for me, gents ? Steve

Sounds like another crooked mechanic shop to me. What does the shifter do when he moves the handle?
