Default Painting the XJ

Never done more then spray paint touch ups on the XJ before and would like to repaint it a new color. My question is is there a difference in what paint/primer and paint gun I use? Also where can I get the paint and primer to do it? I dont wanna just rattle can it as I want the new Pearl Blue that dodge is painting the Ram trucks with but have no idea where I could purchase it. Any and all help would be awesome.

Plasti dip that beast! I love easy to repair and can change the color cheap. Here's mine. I'm currently fixing and flipping a 96 XJ and am going to go matte Anthracite Grey on it. Automotive paint is tricky getting the reducers right for temp and humidity plus setting up the gun and spray pattern, dust control and many other factors. Spray wrap is easy and fast.

If you don't want to mess with spray cans https://www.dipyourcar.com/ has kits that come with a spray gun and big gallons of plasti dip ready to go.To paint it the right way at home really can't be done the epa hates it and you need a paint booth to bake it on.Plasti dip is nice tons of colors easy to pull off if you don't like it or mess it up.

I use my Wagner, dip your car is less than a mile from my house. It's nice to pick up a case of pre thinned gallons.

Is this rattle can or sprayed with a gun? I like how it looks and need to paint my XJ in the next few weeks

Is dip the same as paint? Scuff, tape and shoot? Any other sources for purchasing plasti dip than dipyourcar.com?

That's the beauty of plasti dip no sanding just a good degreasing of the paint, taping up and spraying. It sprays different than automotive paint. Need to shoot heavier to the point before it runs, it self levels. Dip your car says light dusting for the first coat, it's hard to dust this stuff without cause a texture like sand is in it keep the gun close because it drys mid air if to far away. To be honest watch the how to videos on DYC and practice on a cookie pan or some flat metal and you will see. Once you get it it looks awesome and easy to change color and fix. The thicker it is on the vehicle the tougher it is and the easier to take off.
