Fred is right. Check the exhaust sticky in the OEM section. I just got a 2.5 tailpipe welded to my thrush welded 2.5 muffler. Sounds throaty yet quiet in the cab. Cost me $71 for the tailpipe and $40 for the muffler.

Yeah it's a bit deafening with the muffler gone, gonna have to check into it

At the smaller muffler shops a full exhaust can be had installed with CAT for about $150 here in this area.

BTW always run the exhaust to the rear bumper in an XJ so you don't get exhaust fumes in the cab.
I have a feeling it'll be more expensive out this way and if I can do it myself I'm gonna. I want to learn and get the experience in even if it takes me two more hours than a shop. I'll anyways go for the stock set up though. My brother warned me about fumes but I haven't had any issues with the muffler gone

The main reason I used a shop besides being cheaper than a DIY deal that them it all. A shop can custom fit the exhaust pipes so they are higher (more clearance) being custom bent but a better overall fit when done.

From what you stated the hangers are shot also so they need replaced. This is a good time to inspect the header on the engine and the down pipe, also the O2 sensors if equipped on your yr.

About noticing the fumes from the exhaust you will not, you will just go to sleep and never wake up, so be careful and keep the windows down till repaired.

My wife has been working on cars/trucks/ATV's/tractors (AG) and small gas engines for almost 38 years now, keep up the good work but know your limitations and when to go for help.

Looking for exhaust repair places and there's a shop right down the road from where I'm at so that's handy. Gonna check them out tomorrow
