Now I have a pressure washer, but i'm also afraid to pressure wash something that should be. Also I'm in georgia, was have red georgia clay, which makes for awesome! awesome! mudding, but hard to get off after. What are some secrets to cleaning your engine etc.?

just cover your distributor cap with a plastic bag. all the other stuff under the hood is okay to wash

i always hand clean mine.. but then again i don't have a power washer.

being a 2000 you probably have coil packs rather than a distributor. If you've got coil packs don't blast 'em. You can do a light spray and wipe 'em off though. If not, cover your up your distributor REALLY well. If you've got an open air filter (K&N, etc) cover that as well. Otherwise just blast the crap out of it.

only clean your engine if you really need to or think it needs it. other than that dont clean it all the time. just make sure to cover distributor really well

Other than the aforementioned distributor and possible open air filter, try to avoid hitting anything that has wires going to it directly with the power washer.

my buddy used to just power wash his without covering anything so thats what iv done the few times iv powerwashed my engine and engine bay is there any possible damage i may have created or anything i should look out for now?

Anything major would have happened already. You may want to pull your distributor cap off and make sure there's no corrosion between the rotor and the metal spark points it runs across. If there is, rub them down lightly with a scotch-brite pad until they're clean.

You can cover the distributor, but our distributors are not really that susceptible to water, and can be easily wiped dry. But I would be more concerned with the intake, computer and other electricals in the engine bay.

Otherwise spray away.

hit it with some simple green and let it soak for a few..... pressure wash away.

Good idea to pull the battery and cover the alternator as well? That's what I've always been told...

How clean do you want it? Showroom clean or just getting rid of the worst mud? If you are going for showroom clean then you will need to hand wash every hose, connector and wire. You will need to remove the battery and the factory air cleaner box. Once you get it fairly clean you can spray the entire engine with one of the tire foams. Let it sit for a while and hit all the heavy spots with a 2 or 4 inch paint brush to spread it around. Wipe off excess with a clean dry rag. It's a lot of work, that's why I have only done mine twice in 11 years.
