after having a modified 04 BMW m3 I understand the useless part of winter driving. but with the jeep i take it to the snow all the time. This is the only time it got stuck in the snow. that I didnt meant to get stuck. in over 4 years

it was on 3" of lift and 32s the only other time its got stuck in the snow was when I did it on perpose to ask my wife to marry me.

a couple things to remember have the right tires and equipment. never be in a hurry.

I got lucky. Very powdery dry snow and didn't have large expanses of it to go through. The snow in between the drifts was low enough where I could get plenty of momentum.

Keep in mind:
1) You will be driving something that weighs more, so it takes longer to stop.
2) While it is nimble, it is not a sports car.
3) 4wd is NOT four wheel stop. (See #1 & #2)

My 97 came from the factory with my name on the sticker, and it turned 298k miles last week. Basic maintenance can do wonders.
Not to nitpick, but I bet the Cherokee and the 370Z are within 100 lbs. of each other.

I'm just going to leave these here, the Cherokee kicks butt in the winter. I live in Alaska, so when winter hits big time all the Cherokees come out to play. these vids are mine.

They are.

370Z Curb Weight: 3,278 lb. (manual) 3320 lb. (Auto)

XJ Cherokee Curb Weight: 3,357 lb. (Auto 4X4)

Though I'm sure SquidJ was probably referring more to the suspension design and center of gravity than the weight.

My 93 sport 4.0 2 door is actually lighter than the 370z at 3230.

It's amazing how porky the modern car is.

In regards to whether its a good winter vehicle...

When I drove my Acura I would at the snowbank at the end of my driveway, frown an wonder how long it will take to dig out.

Now I look at the same snowbank, smile and wish it was a little higher so it would be a challenge to drive over.

Yep, my 2013 Mustang GT at 3618 lb. (Manual) is heavier than my XJ and yet it is still significantly lighter than a Camaro SS(3860 lb.) or Challanger R/T(4082 lb.).

Even most of today's compacts are in the 2,800 lb.+ range (these numbers are all for base models, most of these cars can get to 3,000 lb.+ with an upgraded engine and/or a few options):

2014 Chevy Cruze: 3,084 lb. (manual) 3,097 lb. (auto)

2014 Ford Focus: 2,907 lb. (manual) 2,935 lb. (auto)

2014 Toyota Corolla: 2,800 lb. (manual) 2,865 lb. (auto)

2014 Honda Civic: 2,754 lb. (manual) 2,811 lb. (auto)

2014 Nissan Sentra: 2,832 lb. (manual) 2,835 lb. (auto)

2014 Hyundai Elantra: 2,73 lb. (manual) 2,818 lb. (auto)

20 years ago most of these vehicles (or their predecessors) barely weighed 2,000 lb.

My friend has a 2002 Audi TT and a '58 (I think) Chevy sedan. The TT weighs more. Hard to believe, but it's true.

Even with the pros it about 800-900 lbs

1970 Porsche 914/6 2030 lbs

2014 Porsche cayman 2888 lbs

Govt regulations are a *****

Cherokees are awesome in snow. Even on my stock all terrains last year I effortlessly pulled an extended cab Dakota out of a revine ( not your typical road side ditch for sure!)

We will see how the bald 33s do this year.

My guess is the Dakota will be pulling you out of the ditch this time.

^ This is so true. Once the rear end breaks loose it will swing quickly. Over-correcting is easy to do when this happens and usually makes it worse.
With that said, when in 4-FullTime the rear does not break loose at all during turning and/or acceleration.
