Cherokee Wheel help!!!!!!
Hey jeepers. I need some insight to new wheels as i am new to owning a jeep.
i am looking to put some new cheap steel wheels with an offset for a better stance. Please let me know what wheels and backspacing etc you have all used.
Here is my set up:
2000 cherokee
3" RC lift
31/10.5/15 procomp MT's
bonus question..... Since my fenders are trimmed could i squeeze 33's under there?

Welcome to CF
stock backspacing is 5.25" so anything less than that will be beneficial.
Your lug pattern is 5 x4.5
A good set up is 15/8 with 4" to 3.75" backspacing. Im running 15/8 ,3.75 BS
should be able to fit 33" with trimmed fenders and bump stopping.

You know, you might need to regear if you go with 32" or 33".. so your jeep is not a gutless pig, plus it makes the trans work harder if you go big tires and don't regear.
this is mine 32"11.5 15 with 3.75" BS

I went 4.56 so if I choose to go to 33" tires Im ready..
Here is a chart for guidance .
These calculations are assuming a manual transmission with a 1:1 ratio. If you drive an automatic your RPMs will be slightly higher, and the opposite is true if you have overdrive (your RPMs will be slightly lower)

Here is some math From Outlaw Star a member here in CF https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...aw-star-25486/
Ok guys, I'm about tempted to sticky this because of frequent asking. I'm about to teach you the basic formula for Effective Gear Ratio. This is what your vehicle acts and feels like it has.
Now its OTD / NTD x CGR = EGR
OTD: Old Tire Diameter (stock size in inches)
NTD: New Tire Diameter (in inches)
CGR: Current Gear Ratio (what gears you have now)
EGR: Effective Gear Ratio (again, what your vehicle acts like it has)
Now, majority of our rigs came with roughly a 28" tire, this is the OTD.
A majority of Automatics have 3.55's for gears. This is our CGR.
Now let's say you want to add those 31" tires, this will be your NTD.
Now the fun part. 28 / 31 x 3.55 = 3.20:1
3.20:1 is what you vehicle acts like it has now that larger tires have been added.
"But what gears should I regear to?..."
Simple, start plugging in available gear ratios for your axle into the CGR slot until the EGR number comes as close to the stock ratio as possible. (3.55:1 for Automatic & 3.07 for Standard. Yes, the numbers won't be exact as stock but as close as possible)
By doing this, your vehicles powerband will be as close to factory as possible causing less strain on your engine and transmission. Basically, your vehicle will think and act like it still has stock tires even with the larger tires.
Any questions or trouble with the math, feel free to shoot me a PM with your Year, Engine, Transmission and tire size you wish to run (I have a conversion chart to work with metric sizes as well) and I will gladly run the math and give you your options.
