Default buy a renix or not ?

Ive found a 1986 Pioneer 4x4 with 4 cyl and 5 speed. Its stock with the usual dents and dings of a car that old...

Owner says it has had new radiator and brake (system) replaced in the last 2 years...

He says its been sitting 6 months and now will turn over but not start.

I dont have any knowledge of the older renix models..... Should I buy it or stay away from it ?

Hes only asking $550 for it.

OK first off to my knowledge ( and I might be wrong) but the Renix only counts for the 4.0L.

And a '86 model would pre-date that by being the last year for the 2.8 V6..

As for being a 4cyl. That should be the "Iron Duke" a very reliable 4cyl...

I bet if you look around you can find an xj that runs for around the same price.

I would not buy an XJ with anything other than the 4.0, Renny or H.O. versions.

Thanks for the replies..... If it was something I was planning on keeping I wouldnt even look at it. I wont but anything else for myself that isnt fuel injected.

Ive got 3 or 4 people in my hunting club wanting cheap 4wds and thought it might be something to turn and make a quick buck on.

Its over a hour away from where I live or I would have already went and checked it out.

Another thought I had........Dont most of the 4 bangers come with 4.10's? Did they use the dana 30 or 20 in those ? If its a 30 I could always swap those into one of mine with 3.55's and put my old diffs in it and try to sell it.

I might try to get the vin and see if the dealer can look up what it came with.
