It's not possible to
1. Sand the base coat
2. "re-clear".
Where the clear coat has deteriorated the base coat is damaged and discolored. If a topcoat only is applied the vehicle will look like a tricolor hound.

When using a liner you can't simply roll it on it's impossible to hit all the profiles. It dries pretty quick and you have to keep moving. You'll need a Schutz gun and a suitable compressor to run it.

According to the monstaliner website they actually advise you roll it on and that is how the instructions are written based on the roll on application

Dark burnt orange. I called them and they said i would need 2 gallons, but when i did it i only needed 1 gallon of orange. I did two coats, but i did not do the roof or door jams.

First of all, thanks for the great response!

FYI, my GF wants "Turquilla," the turquoise color. I also plan on spraying the trim in black Rustoleum bedliner (easy enough) once the Monstaliner has dried. I ordered samples (free BTW) from Monstaliner, and sure enough, she wanted that

So from what some of you are saying, I can't simply sand off the clear coat and expect good results. Go for a thorough sanding, prime (epoxy?), 2 coats.

I'd love to get a Schutz gun/compressor combo but I am finishing up my masters so money is tight. I have tools/prep materials and she is getting paint kit. My GF is going to help me with the actual painting, so maybe with 2 people working (like in the Pathfinder video above), we could do an efficient job together. Believe I read it takes about 3-5 hours for the first coat to dry and if you want to put on a second you need to it within 8. It will be an all day project, but I believe we can take our time and sort out the details.

Will definitely post some pictures once we're through . Been meaning to do that on here. Might take me a while though.

I have heard good things and it's inexpensive. Better have a good compressor though

Got a question for you guys with experience with this stuff. I have some diff covers I am building for my axle conversion. I was wanting to cover the axles with bed liner because it is tough. I have POR15 bed liner for the housings, which can be brushed on and leave a decent finish. I want this because the texture is going to be a dirt/mud magnet under there. Can I brush on Monstalliner and get a decent smooth finish also? I was going to paint the diff covers red and the POR15 is like Henry's Model T. Comes in any color as long as it is black.
