Default Any permanent damage?

Just curious, I have been running through some puddles here recently due to the storm that hit. The Jeep hates the water and drives like crap after getting wet, it spits and sputters. Im pretty sure its because there is a crack in the dist cap and its getting wet and just causing it to miss. Once it runs for a while after hitting the water it's fine.

I just want to make sure I am not doing any permanent damage to it by splashing around in the puddles some. I plan on getting a new dist cap soon, I would go out and take it apart and check out the inside of the dist but its cold, and wet, and windy still so I really don't feel like messing with it.

Distributor caps are pretty cheap man, and super easy to change. Why put the extra strain on the rest of your parts? change it out.

Yeah I will. That's the next thing I'm working on anyway. Also I saw 2 kinds vented and non vented...any reason to use one over the other? I'm actually most likely going to stop by napa today anyway for a belt and cap.

Update: Although it has sat for about an hour. I did decide to go out and take a peek under the hood.

It is still wet and cold outside lol.

dist looks dry and like it has not gotten wet at all.
alternator looks dry
inside air box looks dry.

what else could cause that sputter after going through water. The dist cap looked like it has never been wet. There is even dried out dust and such on top of it.

What else should I check?

thanks for any input.

quit splashing through puddles. it will be the end of your jeep one day, for sure.

but as for running like crap, could be anything getting wet, like a sensor, wires, cap even though it looks fine it could be getting moisture inside, and don't rule out water in the intake.

start with the cap and rotor, then wires and plugs. your jeep could probably use them anyway, if they haven't been changed out for a while.

could also be your o2 sensor, cat filling up with water if you have an exhaust leak...
