Default 96 temp and oil pressure gauges not working?

so im going to look at a 96 se 4 cylinder 5 speed tomorrow and when i called the guy, he said the only problems were the pin on the passengers mirror is missing and folds in (any way to ghetto rig it?) the rear wiper doesnt work, and the temp and oil pressure gauges dont work. i know the oil pressure could be the sending unit but the temp gauge?

he said he did swap face plates cause the old one didnt have any working gauges, only the trouble lights worked.

thanks all, new to pre-97s so idk if its a common thing

Cool

91-96 has the same cluster. If they did not change the sending units along with the gauge cluster then that is the problem. I had to try several used clusters before I got everything working.
Search this forum for gauge cluster swap. There are several very detailed articles.
Too bad it's not a 4.0.
