As far as I know I would rate it excellent shape, it needs a battery, new emergency brake cable thats stretched, & a wash & I would trust it on any road trip. the rings are weak, so it wont hold in gear on a hill & have to use emergency brake, but gets about 2000 miles to a quart of oil 1 rust spot on lower rocker.
I tried to sell it last year with no luck & I was asking way less than what I see decent Cherokees selling for, I was asking $2,200 wh I was trying to get a down payment for property, people were offering me $500 to $800, & 1 perso did offer $1,200 & apparently people are asking way more here than other areas, but thats normal, my last 2 motorcycles I traveled to other states to buy. but things are alot higher here than big cities. before I would sell it for way less than I could replace it, I would keep it & rebuild it, mechanic work is easy for me.
I cant afford to buy aything right now, & I really do like my Cherokee, thats why I was wanting to keep it, plus switching it in 2 years to a 4.0 automatic I will still have the lower gear axles the 4 cylinder uses.
my area is south west Virginia, & just browse Danville VA craigslist, if something cheap did show up, there isnt anything I can do financially anyway right now

Cheapest option:
Get a knee brace and some tire chains
Not really that cheap option:
Swap a 4-cy auto trans in it (guessing at least $400 in parts to do it properly)
Free but slim chance option: try to trade it for something with an auto and 4wd that will last 2 years
