Default Gutter mounts?

I'm planning on building a roof rack and Im planning on making it big enough to #1 put a tent on #2 be able to lay on and shoot ground hogs in the local fields where I hunt. So my question is if I were to use 6 jcr gutter mounts would it be strong enough to hold my weight? I weight 220 and my bed is the rack will be about 30-50 pounds too. Any suggestions?

Really couldn't tell ya. Personally, I'd just throw the extra two on for peace of mind.

Ive decided I'm just going to use the existing holes for the stock rack and bolt it into my roof. Add silicone and make the pad that bolts on nice and wide to distribute weight.

That's going to be quite a bit weaker than using the gutters, probably warp your roof too and start leaking.

Not to speak for anyone but both racks I've made I only used 4 JCR mounts and that was plenty for holding a spare, odds and end camping equipment plus myself (I weigh 190) so I'm sure 6 mounts would be beyond sufficient.

What makes you say that?

Your roof just isn't as strong as your gutters. If your gunna have a good amount of weight on it I'd recommend doing gutter mounts.

How much is a "good amount of weight", I wouldn't hesitate to load my 4 snowboards, and gear in my pod using the factory rails. I don't mean to bash, but honestly if you use the full length of the roof and bolt it down properly it shouldn't be an issue.

Depends on the person haha, as long as the rack is supported well enough and it distributes the load well, mounting it to the roof shouldn't be an problem.
