Haha working at a bike shop there is no surprise in the limited knowledge some bike owners have, but that's all fine to me. Stolen seem to be getting better as time goes on.

lol yeah some people just don't have any mechanical knowledge.
I like the bike, stolen seems to be a good quality company.

so what would y'all say if I found a 06 super duty front axle for 275? actually I found a few. are they really that cheap?

Sounds like a good deal. My friend buys and sells them for $1000 a pair or $500 each on CL and FB. I gave $700 for my pair. I just bought a spare front axle for $240 and am trying to sell everything other than the shafts and UB's for $200 on FB and Hardline. For some reason the Sterlings are more expensive for my friend to get.

that's weird, usually rear axles run way cheaper than fronts.
I guess I thought the super duty 60s would be more expensive than say the Chevy Dana 60s that seem to be right at 1000$.

Yeah, it must be whatever yard he is getting them from.

Everyone is a fan boy of the KP 60's both Ferd and Chevy. People wrote these off as worthless BJ axles until they started to get built. Strongest stock axles ford has ever made.

yeah that's what I kept hearing. "it's a bj axle it's weak" I really don't see having bj as a big problem unless you want to put hi steer arms on a stock knuckle. that's no big deal to me. people jump their superdutys with these axles stock with no failure. I'm excited to start building them.
by the way while I have your attention, did you have to move the rear springs perches?
I'm too lazy to measure my 8.8s width from perch to perch lol

got a full sheet of 3/16.
dropped the jeep off at a buddys shop where we will fully weld the tube and finish the skins.
wished i had money for some DOM right now but im too exited about the tons to buy some sticks for a cage. i need to pick up a front d60 asap. got my 10.25 torn apart. shafts and housing are still in perfect condition but man that ring and pinion, carrier, and all the bearings/ races took a beating from the high heat and friction from no fluid. i will be getting 5.38s i think and i wished could find a spool for the 10.25. i guess no one makes them. oh well, a detroit should be just fine.

1.) Do a good cage before the axles. No point in the axles if you go out and flop it over and destroy the jeep or hurt yourself.

2.) Buy an open 10.25 carrier and weld the spider gears. Mine is a 10.5 LSD carrier that was taken apart and then welded. If you have the money, buy a selectable locker. Having a welded rear is a PITA sometimes. Welded front is ok with the stock lock outs, but man the rear makes life frustrating sometime.

I run thick cut 60 gears on the stock carrier from RWKHaus supply. Under $700 shipped for both R&P's and install kits.

yeah I'm gonna do a simple 6 point halo and a b and c pillars to start with. then I can start the tons. I made that decision yesterday when I realized how much protection I don't have over my head lol
I love the Detroit in my 8.8 right now so I would be fine with one in the 10.25 but i will probably just pick up a open 10.25 carrier and weld it up.
the front though I'm gonna want a selectable or at least a Detroit cause I won't be going full hydro right away and I still want to turn haha

At the least I would recommend assist, it helps a good bit. You can weld the 10.5 LSD carrier, mine is welded.

what does the 10.5 carrier get you? anything besides the obvious .25" larger ring gear?

You should have a 10.5 axle being an 05+. The 10.25 ring and pinion fits in the 10.5 housing, you have to use 10.25 gears after a certain numerical set like 4.10's because of the bearings for with the install kits. It's not a carrier break, but a difference in the gear sets that need 10.25 bearings. I have 5.38 USA standard 10.25 gears and install kit inside my 10.5 axle with the stock LSD carrier that was taken apart and welded. Just saying you don't have to get an open carrier unless you really want one and it will also save you $500 or however much a Detroit is. 11+'s come with an electric locker. I don't know how good it is, but I've wanted to find one and research them a little. Then I'm using thick cut 60 gears so I didn't need a new carrier.

oh alright, the carrier that came in the axle is a stock LSD so if I can salvage it I'll just pull it apart and weld it. then I get 10.25 5.38s and master install kit. I think I'll do a Detroit in the front though. do you have a build so I can see how you delt with the small ammount of tube on drivers side of the super duty 60? I'm thinking about keeping the stock brackets on there and just modifying my arms to mate up

I have a build on here called Will's Cherocar or something. There is a link in my sig if you can see it.

My friend kept the stock mounts on that side at one time and they just hung down too low for my liking. His pics are on the multi page SD 60 thread on pirate. I used the coil, LCA, and shock mount from ballistic. I'm not worried about how mine is.
