Tell your buddy he does good work! I was gonna bring mine that low but I don't really need doors anymore so I figured I might as well bring it higher.

Yeah, he is doing everything over-kill. I will still want doors on mine so I think I am going to copy what he is doing. Luckily I have C.M. metal real close and they keep a scrap yard that has 1/8th" sheets about a yard sq. that I can snag for the boat-side. They sell it by the pound. I would like to do half-doors on mine some day also. Just have to find a 2-dr part-out, the salvage yard wants to much for them.

I was pricing out 4x8 sheets online and local of UHMW and quickly left that idea. I could probably get some big scraps or buy it through work, but even then it's pretty pricy for a piece of plastic. Ha. Looks good so far.

well ive got the passengers side almost completly tacked up with braces and all.
just one more brace from the top of the front leaf spring hanger and it should be ready for complete welding. so there will be 6 braces to the unibody per side.
id upload pics but the mobile app doesnt work right now so ill have to do those later.

Dang, 6 is a lot. I only have 4 per side on mine. Leaf spring hanger, under the B pillar, Close to the A pillar and under the driver seat sorta. Sounds solid.

I got one at the a pillar, 2 between a pillar and b pillar, one at the b pillar, one between b and c pillar, and one at the spring hanger.
Overkill maybe but I have some gaps up to about 1/4 to fill with weld so I can get full contact where the braces meet the unibody and 2x4 rocker. So to compensate for any lack of strength due to some spots that need filling with weld I opted to do more bracing. Cutting the right angles on the 2x2 sucks with a grinder lol I've gone through 11 cut off wheels so far.
Also with more bracing I might be able to get away with using 1/8th for skin

I used a plasma cutter and got it close enough to tack and burn in hot. I'm a hi tech redneck fabricator.
