Default tire carrier idea

I always see tire carriers on the back of Suzukis and Geos. I am talking about the tire brackets that bolt directly to the back. anyone put one on an XJ?

The hatch is too week and would require alot of structural reinforcement to safely carry the weight of a full size spare. Then you've got to beef up the hinges and struts.....

See where this is going?

So, yes it's possible but it is not a simple bracket bolt on type mod.

I wonder if the hood struts and hinges off a grand cherokee would do the job? A hood is pretty heavy.

i wouldnt try it cause the cherokee hatch is fiberglass, just spend the extra lil bit and build a bumper with one built into it seriously i think i did mine for 75 bucks total, and about two weekends

sounds like a pretty cool idea, i only wonder if it would limit you to a certain size tire, because of weight issues.
