Unfortunately bad things can happen to good shops. My shop burned to the ground new years eve. the causes was a f150 with a leaking gas tank the owner didn't tell me about. and insurance will cover none of it because the truck that caused the fire was not mine

I skinned the walls with 24g steel sheet, & caulked all the seams with high heat chimney mortar. Not that that i fire proof, But if my shop burns the house is going with it.

I feel safe now. Sheesh.

Finally got the conduit run, electric is all done. Just want to hook up the stereo so I can plug the MP3 in while I'm makin / fixin stuff... Need to get rid of all the chipboard that used to be the shelves in there. Trash man is gonna hate me this week.

Next I need nicer weather to work in. Sick of the humid stuff.

Some great workplace setups in this thread.
My son in law sections our 2 wheel toys in the "man cave", he built it and did a great job. The family garage is suited to the 4 wheel work, and of course the head mistress's car. It's important to keep a vehicle in a garage, else it will mysteriously fill with non shop junk within days. Here's the "Cave". Comes with stocked beer frig so no one has to go back a forth to the house when servicing one of the toys.

Default Shoppin Carts Full

The four wheel fun happens in the garage. As stated before, the wife's car prevents the space from filling with junk. The rest of the fleet is built and maintained here. An short trip to the house refreshment frig. We try to make use of our walls and as much shelving to utilize vertical storage space. Little concerned about the door height when future jeep lift plans are installed, guess I could air down for entry?

I'll play too 45x60 two story. Living area on top with balcony and play room on the bottom. Separated by a door with another 15x10 storage area. Shop ceiling are 12ft three bay one standard garage door, a 9x10 and then 10x16 door. Radent heat, 60gal compressor, Trans jack, crane, stands, drill press. Routed for cable and speakers on four corners with central sound hook up. Things to come 2 post lift, welder, cutting torches, plasma cutter, press, and possibly a add on for body work and anything else, so it stayed somewhat clean in here.

I feel for you guys working outdoors, when I was married I had a one car garage, after the divorce I lived in an apartment and did lifts and motor swaps in the parking lot, but my landlord was cool and let me keep my tools in the basement storage.

Now I got a small 2 car garage, and it seemed like a lot of space but quickly is running out, I have parts in a pile covered by a tarp in the back yard, and under my jeep currently is a set of axles, (2) AW4 trans, 231 transfercase, a ton of steering, driveshafts, and other misc parts, on the other side of the garage is a generator, press, tire machine when not mounted.

Lucked out recently and got all (3) of those Craftsman Workbench/tool storage units for $50 total on Craigslist.

I LIVE FOR THE DAY TO BUILD A BIG *** GARAGE, BUT JUST DAMN HAPPY TO HAVE THIS ONE FOR NOW.

The tire machine can be bolted in and removed as needed, also same bolt holes hold a receiver plate to slide my winch in if I need to drag a dead Jeep up the sloped driveway

I have a well equipped machine/fab shop in a really old building with no room for bringing big projects indoors. I work on my Jeep outdoors along with whatever the road crews bring in and it's really getting old. Props to you guys that work from home and do it in a civilized situation.

Here's a quick view of my set up.

Main bench

Desk, computer, storage, etc.

General "stuff"

Hardware and small tool storage

Beer fridge.

Gotta have air ... need more!

Home made sandblast cabinet

Home made parts washer.

Outside canopy - probably where I enjoy working most.

Metal ceiling (aluminum soffits) because I hate drywalling!

I thought my space was organized! Yours takes the cake! I like the Idea of the filing cabinets. I need a space to neatly store all my templates, tool manuals, and any build plans I have. That might be my next build. I will probably try to incorporate it in to my work bench some how.
