Default Roofing Tar V.S. Truck Bed Liner

Hey Guys, I'm a little new so please forgive me if this is in the wrong section

I'm wanting to lay down some bed liner on the inside of my '91 Laredo. However, I've read that the Duplicolor and such have issues with peeling. An old timer I know suggested I just roll on some Henry's Roofing Cement (the black tar junk). Wondering if anyone has done this and how well it held up over the years?

I saw in another thread where someone used the roofing cement and then bed lined over it. Any idea if this would make the liner hold up better?

I am currently doing my floors in my 89 and i ran across the same dilemma. I figured for 20 bucks I'll try the roofing cement/ sealer it says on the bucket that its a rubberized product that dries flexible. I just put it on this morning and i will admit it was a little hard to use but i figured out that if you put the gallon in front of a heater it will liquify enough to apply with a stiff brush. I applied a good coat not too thin but a good solid coat and 5 hrs. later it was dry and rubbery just like a seam sealer or bedliner without the texture. IMO if you have a lot of money use bedliner, if your on a budget give the roofing cement a go.

Yeah roofing tar becomes pretty messy when the temps rise.

Not roofing tar, roofing cement/sealer. Make sure you read the can, The tar will not harden and you will have a horrific mess for sure!!

I am some what experianced with roofing products. I own a roofing company. Roofing products are for roofing, no matter what the product is. Use the right stuff or dont do the job at all. If I come off as a hum drum downer not willing to give a new idea a try. Than convince me other wise. Untill then, use what people have devloped for automotive use on your floors and not building supplies.

well, if you want it to look like crap and make a mess...use the tar. if you want it to look good and last...use herculiner. do it right the first time.
