Aren't you worried about hanging up on the bracing?

Hello,

I am planning to plate the sides, true boatsides.
So the bracing will be smooth.

Hello,

Weekend update.
It was a good weekend.
Have the rockers and bracing attached both sides.
End caps welded on.
Right side is welded in and stich welded to the body.

Left side is cut in and just needs to be welded in.
Then clean up and paint.

Then plating, trying to decide what thickness to go with.

This is the rocker assembly and bracing all welded up.

This is the bracing tacked into place on the vehicle, before welding.

The bracing from the inside.

The bracing welded to the floor pan, still need to finish that, ran out of daylight.

I thought I took some pics of the finished Right side, but they were not on the camera, must have goofed.

Cheers Nitro

I dunno if its worth the time, but I think it would be cool to have removable plate sections with flat head socket cap screws bolting them to the supports

does any one use UHMW to skin thier skid plates like we do with UTV's and ATV's for playing off road. Its slick, durable and not as heavy as steel

Ya. Kinda what I was going to ask what material/thickness.material will you be using for the plating... if I were to take this on I would want to save as much weight as possible.

i am thinking skinning the boat side with 1/8 plate and then attaching 1/2 inch UHMW to it.

What Is UHMW?
(Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene)

UHMW Polymer (plastic) is a linear polyethylene with a molecular weight in the range of 3,000,000 to 6,000,000. This value represents the "average molecular weight". Therefore UHMW is 10 times heavier than regular high density polyethylene.
Characteristics:
  • The highest abrasion resistance
  • Outstanding impact strength even at low temperatures
  • Excellent sliding material due to low coefficient of friction
  • Self-lubricating
  • Easily machined with common woodworking tools

Lol you a salesman? That would be an.awesome way to save weight but I would worry about it taking a hit and breaking if it is attqched rigidly
