Well this week was my first full week off of college for the summer. That means I can work on a rear bumper without having to worry about needing to put my bumper back on before the next day. So today I decided to get started on the bumper.

Here is my old Tire carrier... When i get done with the bumper/carrier I'm selling this one... if anyone local wants it, but it will be a couple of weeks before I can sell it.

Got started by taking off the rear bumper.

Then I cut down a 128" plus piece of 1/4" 3x5 square tube to roughly 64" for mock up... But the jack-stands would not go high enough... But you get the rough Idea of what it will look like.

That was as far as I got today, I don't know if I will be able to get anything done tomorrow, but I do need to get another grinder, the one I was using blew up today.

Well I didn't get to work on the bumper today, but I did get a new grinder and the bolts, nuts, and washers to bolt up the bumper. 5 on each side and 10 in all. 1/2" by 1.5" long grade 8. All for only $6 at Tractor supply, witch is a lot cheaper from where I was getting my bolts from for my front bumper and rock sliders. (Lowe's) Would of been about $25+ to get them from there.

I will defiantly be working on the bumper tomorrow though.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get the bumper cut and the tie-ins put through the bumper to make the D-ring tabs then get everything tack welded into place then go over to my friend house to do the final welding with his 210V, I could probably use mine, but since it's a bumper and I'm going to be putting a tire on it, using it as a tow point, and it's 1/4" steel. I feel safer using his 210V than my 120V.

Looks good so far! I'd recommend tying your d ring tabs into your frame tie ins for more pulling support, are you going to do anything with the ends? It seems like it sticks out a bit on both sides

Thanks! That was my plan from the start. (to use the tie-ins as the D-ring mounts) Actually, the ends are even with the side of the body, funny thing is, I didn't plan on that, I just cut the longer piece down so I could mock it up. But it turned out to be the perfect with to the body. So I'm keeping the ends the same, but when I order and get the tire carrier kit from AtoZ (spindle, latch and tire plate) I plan to angle the sides after I mock up where the spindle will go.

Well today I started out by cutting the holes in the 3x5 so the tie-ins would go inside of it.

Then I mounted the 3x5 to mark and cut out where the tie-ins would come out to make the D-ring tabs.

After I cut down the tie-ins I put them through the holes I cut in the 2x3.

Then I ground down the 2x3 and started tacking it into place. Then I went ahead and welded some 1/4" to both sides of the tie-ins that were coming out of the 2x3.

Then I went ahead and took it off and bolted the hitch back to it so try and keep warping to a minimum and called it a night.

Well I got done with the Bumper part today. Now I just have to order the Spindle and get that part done.

Well, I got a little bit done today. I went out to Lowe's and got some more pain and the 1.5" hole saw. Then I went home and drilled the holes and went to my friends house to use their 210 to weld the spindle in.

Welding with a 220V MIG with gas sure helps with welding the 1/4" steel, and it looks a lot better than my 120V flux core welds.

WOW. looks really good so far, will you being modifying the plastic bumper ends so that you can slide them back on?? or you thinking of a way to fill in the void under the taillights?

Thanks. And I will be modifying the end caps to put back on it and I will also be making something to go under and behind the taillights to fill the gap.

Didn't get much done today. AT&T came out today to work on the internet because we have been having problems and they didn't leave til about 4, then I had to go do something. So I didn't get started til about 5:30 or 6:00. But I started to make the mount for the tire.
