was considering buying some, but decided to build my own. picked up some 2" x 3" 11 gauge steel (16') needed 4-1' pieces for the arms and 6' per side for the main runs. i had some 1/8" L channel laying around i used to secure it to the seem. and a 4 - 3" x 9" 3/16" plate to bolt to the unibody rails. local hardware store only had 1/4" screw to secure the plate so instead i grabbed some 5/16" bolts and tapped the threads (seem to hold ok). if it becomes a issue later, i can always weld them in place. gotta remove them tomorrow to finish welding them, paint them and grab some more pictures (will post more up tomorrow). so in all was about $75 in metal, a few welding sticks and about 2 days (working on and off)

the sliders do stick out a little further than most. i intended on this so they help protect my doors, mirrors, door handles from trees and they also act as a small step for getting to my strap when i put it on the roof.

Looks nice! I have seen wide rock sliders save a jeep from going over a couple of times. The only thing you might worry about is the supports that go to the uni rail might get caught up in some rocks.

Is 11 guage 1/8th? Do you do rocks because that's pretty thin.

yeah, its around 1/8" i don't do rocks very often, gonna cap the ends to add a little more strength. i doubt i ever do anything crazy enough to even dent these things.

I am about to start on mine where is the best place to put your mounting brackets??? And what is a good size metal for offroading but not extreme??

this size is perfect imo, they prolly weight 35# per side so your not adding a ton of weight and i'd be willing to bet i can bounce this thing on a rock or against a tree and come out with no damage to the slider. which mounting brackets are you talking about? im gonna grab somemore pictures today of them.

took a little time away from the sliders to install my front locker. just got done welding them, need to clean them up a bit, then time to paint and install

Are you mounting straight to the unibody or where on the frame???

Mount it strait to the uni-body part that looks like the frame, and also make sure you attach it to the pinch seem, the part closer to the door that hangs down otherwise it will get all bent up when you hit something with the sliders.

Looks awesome man! Good job! Why'd you choose 1/8"? At least they ain't as heavy as mine. Mine are about 80-90# a piece! But they are a 1/4" thick too.

i think 1/8" will be plenty tough, and they weight roughly 35# each. i didn't want to add a bunch of weight to the jeep and wanted something that would hold up. if they get damaged, better them than my jeep. but i doubt i ever put a dent in these things. there solid. i got them painted up today, gonna grab some more pictures before installing them tomorrow

How did you mount them to your unibody "frame rails"? I see the holes on the mounting plates? Did you plug weld them, drill and tap holes, or drill all the way through?
