Thank you all. Yes, I am planning a rear bumper along the same lines. It will be made out of the same 2" x 5" x 1/4", which in it's self is overkill. I'm not sure if I'm putting a tire carrier on it or not, still deciding. I'm not planning on putting the clevis mounts though. I have a huge ring from tractor supply that I'm using for the rear.

Thank you. I just read through and posted on your thread. They do look similar. I kept telling my friend that helped me "I don't want to ever have to worry about this bumper." I plan on adding a winch to mine too, but I'm planning on cutting mine down a couple of inches and centering the winch on the top of mine. I know that I will end up trimming my grill and I'm ok with that.

Nice, but...
...not really "Overkill" is it?
I guess after 15 years of building demo cars, overkill would be anything so big/heavy/thick/etc. that it exposes a weak spot in the frame.
IMHO, this bumper is perfect. It looks heavy enough that it will keep your frame stiffer (by keeping the two square), it could take a few bumps up front without getting tore up, and protects the winch. It doesn't appear cumbersome, or anything... but then again I guess I havent seen the finished product, huh?
Anyway, Kudos man!

If you use cutting disks on a grinding wheel you will just eat thru them...
With a plasma you can get really really nice cuts, But at the same time if you take to long you you will get slag on the inside of the tube which you need o clean up.
If you do a very thick piece and want to put bends in it. I suggest that you cut a triangle piece out of the steel then make a small incision on the outer edge of where you want the bend to be. That way instead of trying the heat up and bend a piece of 3/8" or 1/4" steel you are essentially bending a piece of 1/8" steel. You can then weld it all up nice and tight.
Just take your time and every bumper will come out very nice.
and again to the OP nice bumper, the more i see yours the more i am still kicking myself for not adding the side pieces right away on mine

Not trying to down you. if you hit something really hard you may end up bending the unibody frame instead of the bumber. I could be wrong. But it looks really good I like the looks alot. Nice job!

My hardest part to work through was my obsessiveness. I obsessed over every decision. I'm glad I did, but it could have been completed faster if I hadn't. I am very lucky that my wife's uncle has a shop across the street that has a nice welder, a horizontal band saw, an upright band saw, a plasma cutter, and a small stock of metal that no longer gets used very much. I just had to figure out how to design it to utilize his equipment best. Grinders and cutting discs work great if that's all you've got, but you can burn through them quickly.

You know as well as I do, it's not that hard to fix that problem. My friend that helped me weld mine, is gonna take his JCR Offroad bumper off and we're gonna re-do his winch mount and add the fender protection.
